  1. Understand your company values and work culture
    Why would someone want to join your business and why is it a great place to work?  Be honest as different people prefer different working environments.
  2. Make your company marketing and branding stand out
    Your website is the first place prospective employees will look to find out about your company.  A good website will help a candidate really get to grips with your business and what it’s about.  You could also include employee testimonials extoling the benefits of working for you.
  3. Create a comprehensive job description
    This will help you to really understand what the key tasks for each role you want to recruit for are and in turn, help you identify the right experience and skills you will need the candidates to have.
  4. Advertising your vacancy
    There are many job advertising websites to choose from, but how do you know if they will get you the desired results? You can spend £1000’s on job ads that may not yield suitable candidates so be careful which ones you choose.  As well as traditional job boards, try using social media to post your job adverts on sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Try asking your team if they know anyone who may be suitable and consider offering employee referral incentives.
  5. What benefits can you offer over and above a basic salary?
    Flexible working is a high priority for many UK workers right now and being able to offer it can be advantageous.   Can you provide annual or team performance bonuses, health insurance, enhanced pension contributions or child care vouchers for example?
